There Are Penguins Here!

Day 157 Beagle Channel

On the advice of our hostess at the B and B, we took a 5 hour boat ride to see some penguins today.

But first a left over photo from yesterday of a fox.

Our hotel in Ushuaia…highly recommend it. Nahuel B and B. 25 de Mayo 440

We got up at 7 and after breakfast walked 20 minutes to the docks where the tour boats were.

Ushuaia

The huge catamaran took us out into the Beagle Channel where we made stops at a few places to see seals and sea birds.

The penguin island was about 2 hours from Ushuaia so we enjoyed a really nice cruise to get there.

This tour only stops at the island and passengers can not go onto the beach. Despite this we got very close to these little guys.

So now the name of the trip “Prairies to Penguins” is accurate and the pressure is off. Sorry Sahen, I can’t bring one back with me.

There may be other opportunities to see penguins as I move north to Buenos Aires so stay tuned fo more!

Congratulations, Dave! You may want to check your maps & GPS — instead of turning around, I’m pretty sure at this point the shorter distance for you to get back home to Canada will be if you just continue heading south. 😉
PS: Argentina is having a half-off sale. Enjoy.

  5. I was sorry not to get down further south to see those penguins when I was in Buenos Aires for Christmas. Two weeks just wasn’t long enough to see it all. Flew to Mendoza for four days instead of seeing more of the area around Salta after we just found out at the airport at 6 a.m. that there was a air traffic controller’s strike at Salta. It is what it is, right?
